EAR WAX REMOVAL

Wax is a natural substance produced by the ear canal to protect it. Sometimes however wax can become a problem when too much is produced and the ear becomes blocked or painful. Syringing using water can cause more problems as it can create an unhealthy environment and promote bacterial and fungal growth. If you have a perforation in your ear drum (tympanic membrane) you should never get water in your ears.

At Echuca Moama Hearing we use micro suction and or curettage techniques, safe and effective methods of wax removal performed under direct vision. Tina is trained in wax removal and will refer on if your ears require medical treatment. She will also give you some management advice to minimise wax impaction.

Should you use wax softening agents before your appointment? If you have used them before and know you do not have a hole in your eardrum it should be safe however if you are unsure it is better that Tina assess your ear before putting anything in them. If the wax is very hard and impacted she may ask you to use drops for a week prior to coming back for safe removal.
